The D8L polyclonal antibody is produced by injecting rabbits with the recombinant Vaccinia virus Cell surface-binding protein (1-304aa), which serves as the immunogen. The rabbits then produce antibodies against the Vaccinia virus D8L protein. These antibodies are purified from the rabbit serum using protein G purification. The purity is 95%⁺. The resulting purified rabbit anti-Vaccinia virus D8L polyclonal antibody is highly specific to Vaccinia virus D8L and has a high affinity for the antigen. This D8L antibody is suitable for use in ELISA and WB.

The Vaccinia virus cell surface-binding protein D8L mainly protects the virus from the host's immune system by inhibiting complement-mediated lysis and modulating the host's inflammatory response. D8L can reduce the host's inflammatory response and help the virus evade immune detection by binding to and inactivating complement component C3b and inhibiting the activity of chemokines involved in the recruitment of immune cells.
